Community Watch & the Salomon Foundation

Last April, #Alpina launched a new participative project called "Community Watch", involving its community in the design of three new watches, one for each universe - Air, Sea, Earth - by reusing existing components. With the design of the three watches now defined, the online pre-order phase, limited to 100 pieces per watch, will take place from June 14th to July 5th. As part of this project, #Alpina is pleased to support the Salomon Foundation, dedicated to supporting mountain professionals and their families. On December 11th, on International Mountain Day, for each watch sold, a donation of 25 Euros will be made to the Foundation to support its projects.

Between April 15th and June 8th, 2021, the members of the #Alpina community had the opportunity to choose the movements, cases, dials, hands and bracelets to define three new #Alpina watches, each dedicated to a different universe: Alpiner for the Earth, Seastrong for the Sea and Startimer for the Air. To create these models, #Alpina wanted to pay tribute to the environment, its source of inspiration since its creation in 1883, by reusing existing and unused components in order to reduce its ecological impact.

Indeed, large quantities of components are destroyed every year or removed from the collections due to the introduction of new products. By reusing existing components and involving the community in the design of these three watches, the Brand finds an appropriate use for these elements rather than ordering new ones, thus avoiding unnecessary waste and pollution.

The three winning models

For the Earth, the winning model is an Alpiner 4 Chronograph, equipped with a Lajoux-Perret three-counter automatic movement. Displaying a blue dial with sunray decoration, its silvered hands perfectly match its steel bracelet.

Divers have opted for a Seastrong Diver 300 Automatic, with a steel case coated with a PVD titanium treatment. Its midnight blue dial, reflecting the depth of the water, features luminescent silver hands topped with a hint of red. The whole is embellished with a blue NATO-style strap made from recycled plastic.

Finally, aviation enthusiasts voted for a steel Startimer Automatic - a reference to traditional pilots' watches - enriched with a PVD titanium treatment and mounted on a blue strap made from recycled plastic. Elegant silver hands hover over a blue sunray dial, for enhanced legibility during flight.

From June 14th to July 5th, #Alpina will be giving its community the opportunity to pre-order these three new timepieces online, at a rate of 100 pieces per model and at a special price. All the information about the project and the possibility of pre-ordering the watches is available on the dedicated website

Between now and December 11th, - the date on which the three watches will be officially available for sale - the #Alpina community will also be able to enjoy a number of surprises linked to the Community Watch project. Not to miss anything, information and alerts will be shared regularly. Stay tuned!

A symbolic date

The three new "Community Watches" will be available for sale on December 11th, 2021. International Mountain Day, this date is significant not only for #Alpina but also for the Salomon Foundation, which supports competitors and mountain professionals who are physically disabled as a result of an accident or illness, as well as their families in the event of their death. On December 11th, for every watch sold, #Alpina will donate 25 Euros to the Foundation to support its mission.

" It seemed natural to us to redistribute a certain amount of the funds raised with the Community Watch project. We are proud to be able to support the Salomon Foundation and their cause so we can help, at our level, and hopefully improve the lives of injured mountain people and their families", Oliver van Lanschot Hubrecht, Brand Director of #Alpina.

"When the #Alpina team told us about their Community Watch project, we were initially extremely honoured to benefit from their support. #Alpina and the Salomon Foundation share common values such as solidarity and passion for the mountain, and it is important for us to be able to count on the support of companies we feel close to. #Alpina invests a lot in supporting alpine skiing athletes, and in this sense, it is in line with the essence of the Foundation, which consists of supporting mountain professionals and their families. A big thank you to #Alpina for their support through their beautiful Community Watch project! "says Marie Accambray, Director of the Salomon Foundation.

A collaboration with an alpine accent

Since its creation, #Alpina has drawn its inspiration from the Earth and its wide open spaces, whether in the air, the mountain or the sea. Having always been involved in outdoor activities, in mountain sports in particular, it was then natural for #Alpina to get involved with the Salomon Foundation.

As #Alpina is also dedicated to supporting young talents and mountain professionals such as alpine skiers, freeriders and freestylers in their climb to their summit, this collaboration seemed obvious, particularly via five sportsmen and women. French alpine skiers Nastasia Noens, Nils Allègre, Victor Muffat-Jeandet and Robin Buffet (who retired from competition in 2020), as well as French freerider Ugo Troubat, are not only members of the #Alpina Alpinists team, but are also equipped by Salomon and deeply committed to promote the Foundation on their own scale.

"The Salomon Foundation is the very definition of solidarity, the unique solution for mountain professionals to recover from a serious accident. Thanks to the Foundation, we can be sure that our donation will be used to help a person in need, who will then be able to bounce back and find the most suitable solution for them. It is rare to intervene on a human scale and be assured to help someone properly, or to know what concrete action our donation will cover. The Salomon Foundation makes this possible.

As the Foundation’s godfather, I can only be extremely grateful for Alpina's support. Once again, the brand is proving its solidarity and commitment to the mountain world. I am proud to wear Alpina’s colours on my helmet and also on my wrist, when I see its involvement in projects like this one. As you can see, the Community Watch project is an opportunity to give yourself a little treat with one of the three watches created by the community, while supporting the Foundation! "says Nils Allègre, member of the #Alpina Alpinists team and godfather of the Salomon Foundation.
